POMP researchers attend 2025 Gordon Research Conference

From March 9 to 14, 2025, the POMP project was represented at the Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Polar Marine Science, held at the Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco in Lucca, Italy. The event brought together leading polar scientists from around the world, where POMP researchers actively contributing to key conversations about sea ice and its role in shaping polar ecosystems and climate systems.

This 14th edition of the GRC Polar Marine Science conference focused on “Sea Ice as a Nexus in Polar Seas Between the Ocean and the Atmosphere”. The conference theme underscored the central role of sea ice in connecting physical, chemical, and biological processes in the Arctic and Antarctic. During the week, the programme covered a wide range of topics, such as the physical and biogeochemical properties of sea ice and its role in supporting microbial life.

The conference’s format encouraged open dialogue between senior scientists and early career researchers. Through this exchange, researchers refined ideas, shared methodologies, and strengthened networks that will inform ongoing and future work within the project.

Participation in the GRC Polar Marine Science Conference reinforces POMP’s commitment to integrating state-of-the-art science into its mission of understanding and leveraging the mitigation potential of polar oceans. Stay tuned for more updates on how these conversations shape the next steps of our research.
