POMP PhD Researcher Among Norway’s Top Science Communicators

POMP PhD student Tiziana Durazzano recently reached the national final of Norway’s Forsker Grand Prix – a prestigious science communication competition for PhD students. Highlighting the POMP work developed by the research team in Tromsø focused in Work Package 2, she delivered two compelling four-minute presentations, making complex polar ocean science both accessible and engaging.

Her first talk focused on zooplankton traits, while the second explained the role of zooplankton in carbon cycling – a central topic in POMP’s exploration of biological pathways in polar marine ecosystems. These tiny organisms are key players in the biological carbon pump, and are key players in transferring carbon from surface waters to the deep ocean.

Tiziana was the only non-Norwegian participant in the national final, held in Oslo. She placed second in the regional competition in Tromsø, and went on to rank among the top three nationally.

Her efforts not only reflect the scientific excellence within the POMP consortium but also highlight the project’s strong commitment to public engagement and outreach. A video of her presentations is available via this article (in Norwegian).

POMP congratulates Tiziana on this achievement and encourages all project partners to continue sharing science in accessible and creative ways.
