Researchers from the POMP project are taking part in the 2026 Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM), held this year in Glasgow, Scotland. This biennial gathering is one of the most influential conferences in marine science, uniting global experts to advance understanding of ocean processes and their role in sustainable development.
At this year’s meeting, several presentations from POMP-affiliated scientists align with the project’s goal to improve knowledge of carbon cycling, ecosystem change, and blue carbon potential in polar regions. Topics range from Arctic macroalgae and glacial fjords to ocean biogeochemical modelling and benthic–pelagic carbon transfer.

- Nadescha Zwerschke (AU) on how ice scouring affects Arctic macroalgae and carbon storage
- Janus Larsen (AU) modeling primary production in Northeast Greenland under changing ice and runoff
- Amanda Zigeler (NIVA) on benthic processing of organic matter in Arctic fjords
- Marlena Szeligowska (UiT) presenting the first pan-Arctic trait database for phytoplankton and protists
- Laurent Oziel (AWI) showing how climate and land inputs reduce the Arctic carbon pump’s efficiency
- Guillaume Blais (Ulaval) on how glaciers shape seafloor biodiversity and carbon cycling
- William Austin (St Andrews) on blue carbon ecosystems and carbon storage in shelf seas
