Starting in the 1st of February 2024, the 4-year Horizon Europe Project POMP will start its progress towards advancing the science on climate change impacts on polar ecosystem carbon sinks and biodiversity. The consortium with 16 partners will be actively working on multiple fronts, including synthetic pan-Arctic and Antarctic datasets, state of the art models mapping emerging blue carbon habitats, which will provide detailed information on their blue carbon stocks, changes and sequestration potential. POMP will provide improve the current capacity of remote sensing and ecological models for quantifying polar carbon sinks, as well as detailed analysis investigating management scenarios and trade-offs.
